Quality Testing of Resin
The quality of plastic resins is performed in many ways and there are different procedures that need to run on the resins to assess their quality. One such procedure is the melt flow index test which gives the amount of flow of melted resins in ten minutes when it passes through a tube opening under a specific pressure. Melt Flow Index Test
When the melt flow index test is conducted, the resin is placed in the instrument to heat it. Once the resins starts melting, the testing weights are put on the molten resins to apply shear force on it. This causes the resins to flow through the orifice that has a specific diameter according to the standard used for testing. The molten resin flows through the orifice for ten minutes and then this amount of resin is weight on a digital balance. The weight of that molten resins is termed as melt flow rate of the test sample.
